Sound that disturbs people taking a rest, studying and working is classified to noise i.e. the sound people don’t need. If people are exposed to noise for a long time, they can have the following symptoms. They always feel upset. Their blood pressure arises, and hearts beat fast. They have neurasthenia and bad appetites and sleep. Thus, we can see noise harms people a lot. According to the rule, noise criterion of residential quarters is below 50 decibels by day and 40 at night.

Noise can be very harmful and brings a lot of damages to people’s life. Noise affects the quality of sleep significantly. As a result, people suffering from noise have neurasthenia symptoms like headache, short of sleep, dreaminess, bad memories, and inattention. Besides, they also have symptoms of digestive tract, such as sickness, stomachache, bad appetites. What’s more, nutritionists found that noise can increase the consumption of vitamins, trace elements, and some other nutrients like amino acid, glutamic acidand lysine. Noise also stimulates the secretion of adrenal gland and thus heart beats fast and blood pressure arises greatly. At the same time, noise reduces the secretion of saliva and gastric juice, and thus gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer occur. It is studied that every rise of a decibel noise increases 3% chances to suffer from the high blood pressure.

Then, how can we reduce noise and keep our living environments quiet. Here are five tips:

First, make walls rough. If walls are very smooth, it is easier to echo indoors, increasing the noise. Therefore, choose some wallpaper that can absorb the sound effectively. Or people can use culture stones in order to make walls rougher. Besides, soundproof materials can be used to decorate walls and hung ceilings, such as fabrics sound-absorbing panels.

Second, use more cloth as decoration. Experiments show that beetling and tiled textiles have the same sound-absorbing effect, like curtains and carpets. Carpets can eliminate the sound of footsteps, and give people a cozy feeling. To guarantee a quiet environment, people should choose thick curtains to protect themselves from the light and noise.

Third, buy wooden furniture. Fibreporosity of wooden furniture can absorb noise. Besides, cork floor is also a choice.

Fourth, fix a thicker window that faces the street. If the window faces the street, people need to double-glaze it. Or, they can choose hollow glass because it also has excellent effect of soundproof.

Fifth, the light should be soft. Glaring floor, ceiling and walls can disturb the central nervous system, making people upset and sensitive to noise. And thus, pay attention the soft light when choosing various lighting fittings and decorative materials.
